Anyone who knows me knows that I LOVE lipstick.. the brighter, the better! I very rarely wear nudes because I find that they just seem to drain the colour from my face, so I'm most often seen wearing some shade of orange, pink, or red. The con of wearing such fun lip colours is how apparent it is when it fades! Although I always remember to tuck the tube of lipstick in to my purse, I just can't be bothered to actually pull it out and reapply.. thus my new fascination with lip stains. I picked up a few shades of the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable balm stain and I thought I'd do a review now that I've worn each colour several times.
It comes packaged like a jumbo crayon. I love how easy it is to get in to every nook and cranny of your lip with the fresh pointed tip, but of course after you use it for a few times, it does get rounded down to a little nub, which makes it harder to apply. The silver cap at the end is actually twistable so there's no sharpening necessary.
From top to bottom: Rendezvous, Sweetheart, Romantic, and Crush.
My natural lip is quite pigmented (and uneven!) so any lip colour I purchase must be opaque and apply smoothly. Rendezvous comes across as very orange in the tube, but is more of a true coral. Sweetheart is a very fun, blue-based hot pink. Romantic does not seem to photograph very well. It's not the vibrant red that I was looking for, but would be a good colour for those who are just starting to experiment with bold colours, as it is quite the soft red. Crush is a deep, vampy berry.
I apply these balm stains very lightly before I do my make up so that the colour has time to sink in to my lips and really 'stain' them. After I finish the rest of my face and get dressed, I apply another generous coat on top and it really intensifies the colour. Because of the nice 'juicy' balm look that it gives, I like to apply the No Bleeding Lips Secret liner to keep the product from moving around my face.
I really do recommend doing two layers to really 'set' the balm stain. I definitely see a huge difference in longevity when I'm in a rush or I don't have the patience and I skip this step. When done properly, the stain really does last for hours! When I eat and drink, the top 'glossy' layer fades, but I still have the nice opaque colour underneath. After lunch, dinner, and all the snacks in between, only a portion of the stain usually fades by the end of the night: the inner bit in the center of my top lip.
Revlon Just Bitten Kissable balm stains come in 12 different shades and can be found in most drug stores for about $8-10 CAD.
