I told you I was weak for love

As promised, here are a few of the sparse photos that PN and I took on our vacation. We had a glorious week at the Memories Flamenco Beach Resort in Cayo Coco, Cuba.

The view from our floor.
Closer view of the pier that lead right out in to the water. Loved the green rails!
Before and after. I know my legs are covered up, but you can see how dark my arms/shoulders got after a few days!
Poolside view.

Panorama view of Playar Pilar beach.
Gorgeous sunset.

It was definitely a shock to return to Toronto weather, but my tan is helping me keep the winter blues at bay!

Sometimes the truth won't make you happy, still I'm not gonna lie

H&M denim button up (current season here), Zara full skirt (similar here and here), H&M cable-knit stockings (similar here), ShoeDazzle Hailee boots, H&M necklace, Forever21 bow belt (similar here)

Wow, my posts have been super sporadic lately! I totally blame the change in weather. The number of daylight hours are waning, which means a very limited time frame to snap outfit photos. I also blame the fact that I just got back from vacation.. and by 'just got back,' I mean last week, but recovery time totally counts, right?!

We were pretty lax with the camera while we were away, but I'll try and post some vacay photos nonetheless!

You might think I'm crazy, that I'm lost and foolish, leaving you behind

Zara lingerie style dress, H&M knit stockings, ShoeDazzle Hailee boots, H&M necklace, Balenciaga RH City bag

I've been finding it reaaally hard to stay away from Zara lately.. especially with the influx of lingerie style pieces, which seems to be all the rage right now. Slinky, lace trim, mesh... and best of all, black.

You should beware, beware, beware of a woman with a broken heart

ASOS faux fur gilet, Zara jacket (other fun combination jackets here, here, and here), GAP boyfriend jeans, Bloch Hannah shoes, Alexander Wang Rockie in Mercury (in Tundra here)

I often lament that I'm caught in a vicious circle: I don't own any casual flat shoes because I don't wear them often... and I don't wear them often because I don't own any. This has often lead me to put back pair after pair of flat shoes after PN comments 'They're nice and all, but honestly.. how often would you wear them?'

Enter these shoes. I spotted them in the recently opened HR2 store in Vaughan Mills and I was instantly drawn to them. They have the look of an oxford, but the comfort and flexibility of a ballet shoe.. and I mean an actual ballet slipper, not the 'ballet flats' that you will find in all shoe stores. They're made of an extremely soft and supple leather that required absolutely no breaking in. I'm hoping these beauties have officially broken me out of my 'no flat shoes' cycle!

Dreams come slow and they go so fast

Wilfred Free Yasmin dress, Brandy Melville cardigan, ASOS over the knee socks, Shoedazzle Hailee boots, H&M necklace, Alexander Wang Rockie in Mercury (in Tundra here)

I am definitely part of the crowd that thinks that Aritzia items are insanely priced for what they are. I do enjoy browsing the store and trying on their pieces, but I almost always end up putting them back because it's hard to justify a $160 price tag for a basic dress. I would much rather wait for their 'huge' sales (and by huge, I mean $5 off a $100 tag), because some discount is better than none.

However, it wasn't the case with this Wilfred Free dress. I know it's on the 'simpler' side, but the fact that you can wear it with the cutout in the front or the back makes it seem like you are getting two different dresses in one! I've definitely maximized my CPW in the short amount of time I've had this in my closet, which takes some of the sting out of the price tag. I'm actually quite pleased with the dresses Wilfred Free line (I also own the Parleur dress, purchased on sale), and the mid-range prices are not too cringe inducing. I won't be buying out the entire line any time soon, but I won't feel particularly guilty if I can't wait for the sale price!

I've never been a swimmer but I know that I'll never drown

ASOS lace dress, H&M x MMM plexiglass wedges (similar here and here), Zara clutch, Banana Republic Regalia earrings

I'm one of those girls that like to collect dresses for no good reason other than the idea that an occasion may come up where I desperately need one.. which is why this particular dress has been sitting in my closet unworn for almost a full year! I'm sure you ladies know how it is. You're always able to find some amazing dresses when you don't actually need one, but the moment you do... BAM! Nothing works and you're left scrambling to find something.. anything!

.. at least that's what I tell PN when he asks why I need another new dress when I have three at home with the tags still attached. That, along with 'but I have a coupon!' are some pretty valid reasons if you ask me.

Only know you love her when you let her go

H&M denim button up (current season here), GAP boyfriend jeans, Dexter Kylie wedges via Payless, H&M necklace, Prada 01OS sunglasses, Balenciaga RH City in Black

My take on the Canadian tuxedo... and yes, I did just post two consecutive posts featuring my H&M denim button-up. I wasn't kidding when I said it was a favourite! And don't worry, that is not my bra you see peeking out there.. it's the famous Talula Noho bustier.

When the seasons change, I always feel an itch to do the same so I said buh-bye to my ombre hair and went for a nice, rich espresso instead. I love the streaks of ash-brown from my previously-blonde ends! I do have to be careful about fading and will probably have to return for another dying session to maintain the colour, but I think it's worth it! I'm also still on the fence about the (almost) middle-split. I've had side-swept bangs since I was 13 (it's a little horrifying to admit that was a decade ago!) so I'm still trying to figure out how to style this new hair. I have a feeling I'll be doing a little snip-snip in the near future, though..

We crave a different kind of buzz

TOBI bow bodysuit (a cute bow alternative here), H&M denim button up (current season here), Brandy Melville Lily skirt, Prada 01OS sunglasses

These three items have been on heavy rotation all summer, so it made sense to finally wear them all together in one outfit! I remember how hesitant I was to purchase the denim button-up a few years ago because I wasn't sure how often I would wear it.. and boy am I glad I took the plunge! It's a bit heavier than a chambray top, but lighter than a denim jacket.. which makes it the perfect piece to wear on it's own or as a cover-up!

You've carried on so long, you couldn't stop if you tried it

Boohoo Zara crop top, Forever21 paisley pants, Brandy Melville cardigan, Zara pumps, Balenciaga RH Mini PomPon in Coquelicot, Forever21 chain necklace, Forever21 bow belt

My love my Balenciaga continues with the acquisition of this lovely bag. I was able to score this pre-loved past season colour at a fantastic price and I couldn't be happier! Balenciaga is known for their reds, and I consider myself very lucky that I was able to find and own a bag in their famous Coquelicot shade.

Don't forget, today is the last day to join my current Essie Sleek Stick Nail Stickers giveaway!

I know you're out of my league but that won't scare me away

I've been doing my own gel manicures at home (I swear by the Red Carpet Manicure system!) for the past year, so when I saw that one of the items in my Summer Luxe Box were nail stickers, I was super excited to change up my nail game. The Essie Sleek Stick nail stickers in 'Embrace the Lace' were neutral enough to wear to the office, but still super fun looking.

I've had previous experience with the Sally Hansen nail stickers, so I was pretty confident of my abilities beforehand.

Included in the package are 18 nail applique strips, 1 cuticle stick, 1 file/buffer, and an instruction sheet. I also brought a small pair of scissors to use just in case I had to trim some of the nail applique strips to fit.

The instructions are pretty clear. You start off by matching all of yours nails with the best fitting nail strip. I did run in to a bit of a snafoo here, though. My index, middle, and ring finger are extremely similar in size, but there were only two strips that seemed to fit properly. I thought I could use my small nail scissors to trim a larger strip down to the correct size, but the way that they are packaged made it very difficult, and I ended up abandoning the idea. In order to cut a strip down, I would have had to peel it off of the clear backing, which meant I would end up freehanding the trim.

Once you find the best fit, you peel the applique off the clear backing and try to apply it as close to the cuticle as you can. You can gently pull on the strip while you're smoothing it down to get rid of any air bubbles. The best technique that I found was to actually line up the sticker to the side of your nail, rather than your cuticle. That way, you don't get any weird gaps at the sides because you didn't centre the sticker properly. This part was actually pretty hard for me. The shape of the sticker didn't match up to the shape of my nails, so sometimes these gaps were unavoidable. If you make a mistake, don't worry! It was actually very easy to remove the sticker and try again.

Once you get the best fit, you pull the excess over the edge of your nail and use your file to get rid of the extra bit. I like to use the buffer side afterwards and rub it all over my nail to really make sure that the sticker is on tight. I also used the cuticle stick to smooth the bubbled edges down as best as I could.

The end result was not as fabulous as I thought it would be! It was sloppier than I had anticipated. It was actually very difficult to smooth it over the edge of my nail, hence all the bumps that you can see. Once you run the buffer over your nails, I suggest you leave the stickers alone. I was playing around and peeled off a sticker after I was done to see if I could reapply it.. and while I could, it definitely wasn't as sticky as the first time.

The nail stickers lasted about a week on me. They probably would've lasted longer if I had done a better job applying them.. my hair kept getting caught under the bubbly/ragged edges. These were actually very easy to remove, too! You can peel off the entire sticker in one go. It does leave a bit of glue residue behind, but you can easily wipe that away with some rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover.

While I did like the design, I don't think I would purchase the Essie Sleek Stick again. The application was just too difficult, especially when I compare it to my experience with the Sally Hansen nail strips.. but that doesn't mean I don't want you to have your own opinion!

I'm giving away one set of Essie Sleek Stick nail stickers in 'Show Me Your Stuff.' This giveaway is open internationally and will run until August 23rd, 2013 at 11:59 PM EST. Simply fill out the Rafflecopter below!

I've got that summertime, summertime sadness

J. Crew cardigan, The Limited lace dress, Le Chateau bow pumps, Forever21 bow belt (similar here), Balenciaga RH City

Can someone please tell me where all our summer weather went?!
