You were born a Goddess, I made you my queen

One day left to join my giveaway here!

These four products have been my go-to face products for all of summer. I'm not a fan of heavy make-up, and I've never even worn a full face of liquid foundation before! This method gives me very decent coverage and feels extremely light weight.

1. BENEFIT bo-oing concealer in '02' - available at Sephora here
This concealer isn't entirely too creamy, so I would suggest applying this before your moisturizer has fully been absorbed. This has amazing coverage, and I've gone out many times with just this on my face. This has strong yellow undertones. The downside is that this is only available on 3 shades.

2. MAC msf natural/shimmer in 'medium dark' - available at MAC here
I use this only as a setting powder, as well as to even out my skin tone. As a powder foundation goes, this thing is pretty useless. It's SO sheer. Great thing to use if you've got oily skin.

3. EVERYDAY MINERALS blush in 'daydream' - available at Everyday Minerals here
This is the perfect matte blush. It's a muted rose colour, and it's virtually impossible to over-apply. I tend to have a heavy hand, so this is a plus for me. This is really versatile and suits all skin tones. I love the blurry/dreamy effect this gives me. This bad boy has 6 g, which means it will last you FOREVER.

4. MAC blushcreme pearl in 'ladyblush' - available at MAC here
This product has been raaaaaaaaaved about, so there's not much for me to add. I have oily/combo skin, so I know I'm supposed to avoid cream products, but I love this just too much! A little goes a long way.. I tap my stippling brush only twice into the pan, and it's enough. I don't even need a highlighter when I use this, since it gives me a nice glow.

L to R, T to B: bare face, concealer, msf, daydream blush

Any way you want it, that's the way you need it

Random story time.

So PN and I spent an entire two days a few weeks ago painting my room. We finished painting at around 9 pm night, and we took a break in my kitchen. We were home alone, so we thought we would go out and grab something to take home to eat (we were both in 'home' clothes that were covered in paint). We grabbed some cash and slipped on some fobby Asian slippers. Before we leave, however, I turn on the kitchen light so that people will think someone is home and won't be tempted to rob it. We head out to KFC, grab some food, and return home. I open the door to a dark house.

PN comes in behind me, and I shout out 'is any one home?' No one answers. I turn to PN and say 'didn't I turn a light on before we left?' He says yes, but he turned off the kitchen light when he walked past, and turned on the living room light instead. Or at least he thought he did. We argue over this while we walk in to the kitchen and put our food down. Before we sit, we hear a sound. We both freeze. I ask him in a whisper if he was SURE that he turned the light off. He tells me he isn't sure any more.

I tip toe to the basement door (because my room is in the basement) and I shout 'is anyone home?' as I flick on the stairway light. I see a shadow dart in to my room. I inhale deeply and am .0002348723765 seconds away from screaming when I hear my brother go 'DAMN IT.' He slinks out of my room and goes back in to his.

He had been waiting for me to come downstairs the entire time PN and I were arguing about the lights (for about 10 minutes) in an attempt to scare me.

Don't be so quick to walk away

I've had some insane cravings for some ramen since reading Kevin's blog post, so PN took me to Ajisen Ramen.

It's quite small and cozy, and there were tons of workers even though there was only two other tables while we were there.

They had this cool wall of ramen bowls from different years, starting from 1986. The bowls ended at 2002 (I don't know why).

Assorted Seafood Ramen

Spicy Beef Ramen

This is usually where I go crazy about the flavour/texture/what not, but.... I didn't like it. :( I didn't even finish it. CRY! I was expecting this to be AMAZING, and while it was good, it wasn't great.. The noodles were a bit too firm for my taste, which I was surprised about since I prefer my noodles to be a bit chewy. The seafood was bland, and my soup was meh. PN's soup tasted like the flavour packet from instant noodles (the Mamma Mia silver package to be exact!).

I loved the big ass spoon. It was like a mini-bowl!

Ursula! Ahaha (from The Little Mermaid)

Overall, my taste buds were sad, but I was still happy to spend the day with PN. It's hard to get our school/work schedule in sync, but our love for food will always find a way!

If I had the chance I'd ask the world to dance

I'm smart. I'm not trying to brag, or give myself a big head. It's just a fact.

All my life, I've been told that I'm smart. That I could be anything that I wanted to be, do anything that I wanted to do. I had a vast amount of opportunities available to me because I'm smart. The thing is... I may be smart, but I'm not intelligent. To some people, these may be synonyms, but to me, there is a huge difference. I'm not a child prodigy. I'm not a genius. I'm just smarter than most people my own age, which is why I was put up a grade when I was younger. I'm not a mathematical whiz, or a walking encyclopedia. I have advanced reading and writing skills, and learning comes a bit easier to me than the average person.

Throughout my years in high school, I was content to get by on this quality of mine. If I didn't understand something, I would just go home and tackle that chapter in my textbook. It wasn't because I was too proud to ask for help; it was because a lot of the time, I never got a serious answer. Any time I even suggested that I may be wrong or that I wasn't sure, other students in my class would scoff and say 'what do you mean you don't know, you skipped a grade!' It was like I couldn't be a normal student with normal problems. When I met new people, mutual friends would introduce me as 'Joanna, the girl who skipped a grade.' I hated it.

The reason I'm smart, and not intelligent, is because I lack ambition. That's right, I said it. I'm not ambitious, at all. I am not a go-getter, or a fireball. I know that I want to be happy, mildly well-off, and in a challenging, yet stable job. The thing is... I don't know how to get there. I'm a week in to my fourth year at university, and I still have no idea what I want to do. I don't even have a direction to point myself in. I'm not the smartest person in my school, now. Not even in my class. All this pressure to do better than everyone else is gone, and I thought it would be liberating. Instead, I just have this weird feeling in the pit of my stomach.

Everyone keeps telling me I'm smart. My family, employers, and friends are quick to tell me that I'm a smart, young woman and that I'll be fine because whatever I do, I'll be good at it. No one seems interested in actually helping me figure out what I want to spend the rest of my life doing. They just tell me that I'm capable, and that they will support my decision. No one wants to take me seriously when I tell them how freaked out I am. How lost I feel.

I'm afraid that I won't find something that I love to do. I'm afraid to disappoint my family. I'm frustrated that the only topics that seem to interest me are ones that are outside my program/specialization. I'm doubly frustrated because I know that if I were to pursue a degree in those topics, I will end up no where. I'm angry that others have set such a high bar for me. I'm angry at myself because I'm falling so short that I'm not even off the ground. I'm worried that I will have paid thousands of dollars for nothing. I'm actually frightened at the amount of debt I will be in once I finish school.

I know there are hundreds of people who feel the same way, but I feel like they don't feel it to the same degree that I do. I feel like my past experiences make the stress seem 1000x worse. I know that's very conceited of me to think that my worries are worse than any one else, but I'm the only one who feels my feelings (if that makes any sense), and that is just how I see it.

It's easier to just put on an 'I'll deal with it when the time comes' attitude than to admit to the people around me how weak and out of control I feel.

I was made for loving you baby

PN and I saw 'The Town' today, the one staring Ben Affleck. Blake Lively is in it as well, and I must say... she plays a crackwhore quite well, LOL. It's the best compliment/insult ever. The Bawwwwston accents were on POINT. Movie was good overall, ending was quite predictable though. My outfit reminds me that fall is already in the air.. Nothing says cooler weather like loose clothes in neutral colours.

PN also purchased this tank dress for me in the gray, and I am in LOVE. I've been lusting after this for quite some time, but I always can't find reasons to justify buying American Apparel stuff.. It's crazy expensive for what it is, so most of my American Apparel wardrobe were gifts from birthdays and Christmas'. Must find ways to wear this dress before winter hits! I'm thinking textured tights, patterned bra, killer heels... and a cardigan belted off the shoulder? The possibilities are endless...

It set my soul on fire

Five fun facts:

1. I like to watch people eat, CREEPY I KNOW. It's just so fascinating, but the worst part is that I'm not very subtle about it. I just stare, LOL. The best eater I've ever seen is my cousin. Honestly, HE EATS SOOO NICE. Everything goes right in to his mouth without touching his lips. It just goes from bowl right to his tongue. EVEN RICE. I like to watch PN eat too, but for other reasons. He eats like it's going to be his last meal forever. And EVERY meal is like that. He makes it sound sooo tasty.

2. I chew gum with my mouth open. YES I'M THAT ANNOYING PERSON. I usually catch myself and I force myself to do it with my mouth closed. I just really like the way it sounds!

3. When I open a bag of candy, I have to finish it. I have noooooo self control when it comes to things like that. I'll put it away to save for later, and next thing I know my hand is scraping the bottom of an empty bag.

4. I enjoy driving by myself. But only on breezy, sunshine-filled days. I like to roll down my window, put the sunroof back and just let the wind whip my hair around my face. But add another person in to the car, and I don't enjoy it as much (I don't know why that is).

5. I am a speed demon on the road. And I'm actually pretty amazing at parking. No, seriously. I'm amazing at all kinds of parking.

Tell me something about yourself!

A lunch break at IKEA. This all came from ONE hot dog (PN's).

You used to captivate me with your resonating light

So this past weekend (September 10-12) was the MAC/Estee Lauder Warehouse sale! I got tickets for Saturday, and I arrived at around 8 am. WOW, it was crazy busy this time around. Normally, there is probably less than 100 people in front of me when I go this time, but there was easily 200 people this time around. Soooo many things that I wanted were sold out, :(. I actually didn't leave with very much.. I was very good and bought things that I really needed and/or that I've been looking at for a long time and considering buying. Click on photos to see product names!

L to R: natural, shimmer, spread out in thick layer, blob, blended in to skin

The MSF that I purchased at the last sale (Medium) was actually too light for me! I thought it was because I still had some leftover tan from my vacation to the Dominican Republic in April, but even now it's a tad too light! The foundation part blends nicely in to the back of my hand. When I compared the Medium to the Medium Dark, I thought there was such a difference! The Strobe Cream will be a nice liquid highlighter for the winter, since my skin is more chapped in the colder weather.

MAC 165 brush

Lashes in #41

What's great about these lashes is that they're extremely long.. So I can cut one in half, and have two pairs in one case!

This is actually all that I bought, can you believe it?! I really wanted to try the MAC Face and Body Foundation, but all the colours from C1 to C7 were completely sold out already! Fiona went on Friday, and she told me they actually put a cap on it (20 foundations per person) and people were actually hitting the max! The next thing I really wanted were the Blush Ombres in Vibrant Grape and Springshine. When I got to the powders/blushes table, they were still there but by the time I reached the employees, it was sold out. :( I didn't bother checking out the quads/eyes shadows/lip products because I have waaaay more than enough.

Charity packages time!

Clockwise from top: Assertive slimshine, Louder, Please matte e/s, Blonde brow pencil

This is the charity package from Friday that Fiona kindly picked up for me! I thought the All Over Lotion would have some amazing strobe cream/dewy affect, but it looked just like regular lotion.

L to R: two blended colours, silver, dark silver

This was the free gift that they had.. I believe it was the same for all three days.

Clockwise from top: Mineralize All Over Lotion, Roman Holiday dazzleglass, Spanking Rich dazzle glass, Eversun beauty powder blush

This charity package from Saturday. I picked up two of these, one for Sheryl, and one for a potential swap! I actually already have 3/4 of these items, so if any of you readers got a different package, send me a message and we'll arrange something! None of the items have been swatched.

Just to give you guys an idea about much you save when waiting for the haul, I bought my cousin a night cream, day cream, eye cream, and serum for all under $100 (Clinique, Origins, nand MAC).

I'm trying to control my hoarding impulses and this is a start! I even thew out the boxes to the items that I've swatched. :) *pats self on back*

Take me to that great place with wonders and wishes

After running errands all day on Wednesday, PN and I decided to explore the plazas surrounding Vaughan Mills and found a pizza joint called Marcello's that piqued our interest.

It's a sit down type of place, but very casual. Totally loved the dark wood. The place was pretty empty yet the hostess decided to seat us right next to the kitchen where it took us 10 minutes to get someone's attention to take our order -_-. Bad service. PN was STARVING and managed to devour two loaves of bread, including the bread that came with our food, LOL.

Time for some food porn!

Cozze alla marinara: steamed mussels in a spicy white wine tomato sauce with leeks and garlic.

Fiorellini Fantasia: Flower shaped fresh pasta with grilled chicken, spinach, and roasted red peppers in a tomato cream sauce.

Pizza al Pollo: Tomato sauce, goat cheese, spinach, grilled chicken, sundried tomatoes.

Didn't get a chance to take a picture of the front because I had spilled something on my shirt and didn't realize it until I was posing for a picture outside, LOL. I sure hightailed it outta there pretty fast.

Nine in the afternoon

Just a quick haul past from the past month or so! I mentioned in my last post that I've been budgeting myself lately, which means keeping track of every penny that I spend (literally!). Despite having strict limitations on my finances, that doesn't mean that I don't have anything left to spoil myself with. I firmly believe in rewarding yourself for some haaaaard work.

Calvin Klein

I've been on the lookout for the perfect pair of trousers... and I've found them! This was purchased at the Fashion Outlet in New York. It's the 'body fit' so they're extremely form fitting with some good stretch in them. Perfect gray colour, and the best part is that they're not too 'skinny' fit at the bottom. There are also fake (sewn) pockets so that your hips will appear slimmer.

H&M

These may look like a pair of ordinary black slacks, but the stitching on the pant leg actually gives them a motocross look. A great way to try out the style without going all out. I love that they're high-waisted, but the material feels like it'll stretch out and STAY stretched out, so I got a size smaller than I normally do.

H&M

The ultimate crop top, UGH I LOVE THIS. I've already worn it a few times.. It's a snow leopard on the front. It's the ultimate fit: loose, flowy, and cropped to just below the belly button when your arms are by your side.

Forever21

I know, I know.. A maxi dress in this current weather?! Well in my defense, it was early August when I bought this.. I love the taupey colour and the hardware detail. At least I'll be ready for next summer!

Winners

Random notebook.. I actually like to carry one around with me. I used to use this old spiral bound blue notebook that actually has a calendar from 1998-1999 in it, LOL. Time to upgrade.. It's an ecofriendly notebook apparently, hence the cute phrase on the front.

Converse

American Apparel

I also actually bought this bra in black, but that's in the wash.. Honestly, these are SOOO comfortable, I want one for every day of the week! They're great bras for those scoop-back tops/dresses, or even oversized tank tops. It's nice to have a bit of the pattern peek through. If you were interested in purchasing the above bra or one similar, word of advice to the more chesty girls: they offer very little support. The crossback bras are actually better in that area.

Forever21

Self-explanatory!

Until next time, :).
